Automatic Smoke Curtains

The SAC 100 smoke curtain system has been designed to meet all the requirements of and has been tested in accordance with BS 7346, Components for Smoke and Heat Control Systems, Part 3, Specification for Smoke Curtains.

This system features an economical and effective drive mechanism. The fabric smoke barriers are contained within steel box section castings, wound onto motorised tubular rollers. The operation of the motors is facilitated by control panels adjacent to the curtain housings. An extruded aluminium closure is secured to the bottom edge of the curtain to assist the descent, stabilise curtain movement and link multiple curtain runs. In response to signal from the fire detection system, the curtain lowers to a predetermined level.

When safe conditions return the curtain automatically retracts to the raised position. The system is controlled by Zone Control Panels interfaced with the fire detection and Building Management system. These panels incorporate manual control, test facility and system indicator lights. Control panels can be designed specifically to accommodate any particular project requirement.

This system additionally provides a failsafe mode. When the fire detection system is activated, the operational control is sequenced:

1) With mains power maintained, the curtain drives down.

2) In the event of mains failure, the curtain will descend automatically driven by a dedicated power supply.

3) In the event of failure or exhaustion of the backup supply, the curtain will descend, controlled to the activated position. When safe conditions return, the curtain automatically retracts to the raised position.
